Pink Fused Alumina (PFA) Chrome Corundum  Pink Corundum

Also known as Chrome Corundum; adding Cr₂O₃ chromium oxide during white fused alumina smelting gives the crystal a pink colour; hardness is close to white fused alumina, toughness is better, self-sharpening is good, and low grinding heat.

Chemical Grades (based on Cr₂O₃ chromium content)

1. Low Chrome Cr₂O₃ 0.2‑0.45%, Al₂O₃≥98.5%, light pink

2. Medium Chrome (mainstream in the market) Cr₂O₃ 0.45‑1.0%, Al₂O₃≥98.2%, standard pink

3. High Chrome Cr₂O₃ 1.0‑2.0%, Al₂O₃≥96.5%, deep rose red

Key Features

1. Chromium is dissolved into the alumina lattice, toughness  regular white alumina, grains are less prone to breakage, longer tool life

2. Excellent self-sharpening, low grinding heat, less risk of workpiece burn, high surface finish

3. Chemically stable, resistant to acids and alkalis; suitable for dry and wet grinding; not suitable for high-temperature refractory use (contains chromium), rarely made into refractory materials

Main Uses

1. Precision bonded abrasives (main use) Ceramic wheels, resin wheels, wafer cutting wheels, grinding heads; tool grinding, crankshaft grinding, gauges, cutting tools, threaded workpieces, hardened alloy steels, high-speed steel precision grinding.

Compared with white fused alumina white fused alumina is more brittle; pink fused alumina balances sharpness and longevity, better for high-hardness alloy steel.

2. Precision sandblastingpolishing

Stainless steel, moulds, medical instruments, precision hardware, deburring, matt finishing; pre-coating sandblasting; iron-free; not suitable for heavy rust removal sandblasting (costly).

3. Coated abrasives, grinding paste, polishing micro-powder

Sandpaper, oil stones, abrasive powders, high surface finish of precision parts.

Pink Fused Alumina (PFA  Chrome Corundum) Pink fused alumina is produced by melting high-purity alumina with controlled chromium oxide addition. Mohs hardness 9, higher toughness than white fused alumina, good self-sharpening property and low grinding heat. Main grades low-chrome, medium-chrome (popular), high-chrome. Applications precision vitrified & resin grinding wheels, tool grinding for hardened steel, alloy steel, cutting tools & gauges; precision blasting, lapping & polishing for high-finish metal parts. Not recommended for refractory products due to chromium content.
