Uses of Low-Sodium White Fused Alumina

Low-sodium white fused alumina (NaO0.1-0.2%, AlO₃≥99.6%) does not cause grain boundary expansion, cracking or foaming at high temperatures due to sodium precipitation like regular white fused alumina. It is mainly used in high-end applications sensitive to alkali metal impurities.

1. High-grade refractories (largest application area)

- Corundum saggers, corundum-mullite saggers, high-temperature kiln furniture; prevents blistering and cracking from sodium precipitation, extending kiln furniture life.

- Corundum bricks, steel ladle castables, continuous casting parts, porous corundum plugs, ultra-high-temperature kiln linings, precision sintered refractory parts.

Regular white fused alumina contains more sodium, forming low-melting phases at high temperatures that can damage refractories. High-end refractories prefer low-sodium types.

2. Specialelectronic alumina ceramics

- Electronic insulation ceramic bases, power device ceramics, wear-resistant structural ceramics, porous ceramics, foam ceramic filters, catalyst carriers.

- Sodium impurities can reduce insulation performance and cause black pores during sintering; low-sodium white fused alumina ensures insulation, density, and yield.

3. High-end abrasives

- Ceramic grinding wheels, diamond wheel matrices, precision resin wheels; ceramic-bonded wheels are sensitive to sodium impurities, which can cause defects during firing.

- Precision grinding, optical component polishing; available in full grain sizes from F24-F1200.

4. Precision sandblasting surface treatment

- Stainless steel, titanium alloys, cemented carbides, semiconductor parts, PCBs, silicon wafers, precision medical instruments.

- Few impurities prevent sodium contamination and ensure high surface cleanliness after blasting.

5. Filler and coating industry

- Wear-resistant coatings, epoxy flooring, insulating glues, electronic encapsulation fillers improve wear, insulation, and temperature resistance, preventing ageing from alkali metal ions.

6. Others

- Precision casting, sapphire-related auxiliary materials, high-purity corrosion-resistant applications in military and nuclear industries.

Selection guidance

Choose low-sodium white fused alumina for high-temperature sintered products, electronic ceramics, ceramic grinding wheels, high-end saggers, or when workpieces cannot tolerate sodium contamination.

Use regular white fused alumina for simple rust-removal sandblasting or low-end refractories to reduce cost.
